1996 (or, music-related procrastination)

every now and then, i check in with this blog, as she seems to be every bit as fond of 80's music as i am. during a recent visit, i found this:

(i'm leaving the capital letters- just this once- since i'm cutting and pasting out of sheer laziness)

Go here, type in the year you graduated high school in the search box near the top left, and you have the Top 100 songs from that year. Its pretty simple. You bold the ones you like, underline your favorites, strike through the ones you loathe, and italicize the ones you can't remember. No opinion? Just leave it alone.

as you can see, 1996 was a crummy year for music.

(has anyone else noticed this list seems a little fishy? i mean, "the macarena" twice?)

note: i went over to billboard's official website to try and get their list for 1996 (which i'm sure is a little more credible), but apparently you have to register to access that part of the site.

you know, i had no idea how to do strikethroughs until i read the comments that went along with this post on new wave gurly's blog.

i'm guessing that if blogger won't allow strikethroughs in comments, underlining is probably out as well.

i'm sure i liked far more of the 1999 songs that i did in my selection. hadn't celine and alanis shut up by then?

actually, i seriously contemplated doing the year i graduated from elementary school- i probably would have had more songs to underline and put into boldface type.

Hi, I came by way of Daniel. I am a total 80's music fan, and so is my 24 year old son LOL. I graduated high school in '69 - need I say more? lol

celine dion being crossed out *takes out little book and puts two tally marks next to duffs name*
oasis wonderwall being crossed out *takes back out little book and removes two tally marks next to duffs name*

trudie: i'm glad you found your way here- i love seeing new faces.

bricotrout: sorry- i have no love for oasis. i can't remember which brother did it, but one of them called the lead singer of my favorite band a "has-been". besides, their eyebrows give me nightmares.

also, you forgot to add my kayaking tallymarks...not that i've been keeping track, of course.

some of the songs from 1982, when I graduated from high school, i'd like to forget. Some I don't even remember, and others I didn't realize were popular that year (some before and some after, but not '82 specifically). That was a good year for music...

the fact that you kayak was what gave you your very first tally. however, seeing how you look when you wash a car in sundevil apparell *open little book and puts 2 tally marks next to duffs name* ;)

Most of my favourite songs from that era don't make the list. My joy for liking prog rock, I guess.
